Anita Roberts has been working in the field of violence prevention since 1976. In 1985, she was chosen as a Canadian representative on violence against women to the United Nations "Decade of Women" conference in Nairobi, Africa. Her acclaimed SAFETEEN program was introduced into Norwegian schools in 1989. Anita Roberts is an internationally sought after public speaker who has been twice nominated (1997/2002) for the prestigious YWCA "Women of Distinction" award. Roberts is the author of an award-winning book, The Last Chance Café (Polestar) and her latest book, SafeTeen: Powerful Alternatives to Violence (Raincoast) was launched on a North American speaking tour and has been endorsed by international parenting expert and best-selling author Barbara Coloroso. In 2003/04 Anita traveled to Japan, Mexico and Australia where the SAFETEEN program was introduced to educators, health professionals and youth.Her book SafeTeen: Powerful Alternatives to Violence has been translated into both Japanese and Chinese.
